• Yr Aran, yes, no, maybe!

Saturday 27th September, 11 am and Cainey and me have been walking up the Watkin Path in on/off rain for the last hour with the idea of taking photos from Yr Aran. But all we can see is grey cloud. Taking shelter against the wall of one of the abandoned miners barracks, we stop to have a quick brew and asses the situation. “The Met Office said it would clear out by midday ” I say to Cainey, between sips of hot chocolate. “Ianit gettin me camra aut int thus” he tells me in his best Stoke accent.

We decide to give it another ten mins and if there’s no change we’ll cut our losses and head back to the coast. The rain does ease up and we carry on, waiting for the next band of rain to sweep in, but it doesn’t. In fact, the clouds lift to reveal the summits around us and spur us on to the top of Yr Aran.

If we had started on the walk half an hour earlier, I think we would have turned back and missed out on a great afternoon in Snowdonia. Good old Met Office with their accurate data. It’s definitely worth checking before venturing out into the mountains.

  • Snowdonia50 Ultra

Firstly I'd like to thank and congratulate all the competitors taking part in the Snowdonia50 Ultra a 55 mile race around Snowdonia. Not just because of the amazing test of endurance, but also for giving me the opportunity to photograph them in such a fantastic environment.

Along side the race there was also a photographic competition to take the best shot of competitors. Winners are to be announced later this month, so fingers crossed.

This has been the first year for the competition and I'm sure it will be even bigger next year. So hopefully all the athletes and photographers will be ready for the challenge next September...
